Used Dreamweaver

I’ve been building websites for over 10 years now. My first website I built using notepad, and slogged my way through learning HTML. It was about as ugly a website as you can get, but it worked, and I was finally apart of the “web”.

My how times have a changed. I then graduated to Homesite, and Dreamweaver, and even built websites using ASP and other technologies. But, things are easier than ever thanks to some of the new internet tools that I’ve found.

I found www.Weebly.com through a newsweek article and then started to use it. I can now use Weebly and its drag and drop interface to build a website in minutes not days. I can literally start from scratch and get a fully functional website in less than half an hour. You can add a very simple blog, Google maps, video, audio, anything to a website just by dragging and dropping.

I used to recommend to people to get a blog from Blogspot or Wordpress if they had to have an internet presence right now. But, now I’m more inclined to recommend that they use Weebly. And the future looks pretty interesting for Weebly as well. Eventually you’ll be able to point Weebly at any existing website, and import into the application the entire website and edit it right through Weebly. That will make it very easy to update and maintain websites.

While I still use my Dreamweaver and Photoshop to develop websites. I’m now more inclined to use Weebly to at least get the website setup, and then use my other tools to put some finishing tweaks on it, that most internet users probably wouldn’t even have to do.

I also put it through the paces, and let my ten year old create her own website using Weebly. I spent maybe 10 minutes showing it to her, and then went in the other room. By the time I came back an hour or two later, she had a full fledged website with video and audio. I was very impressed, and so was she.

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to create a website, and don’t want to learn anything about how websites work, Weebly is the tool for you.
